Nutrition and health

Analysis of the complex interactions between nutrients and human health through physiology, exposomics, pharmacology, metabolomics and cell/molecular biology approaches

The ultimate goal of this research scope is that of understanding the molecular interactions between food and health in the human body. The research in this field tests the short and long term effects of specific nutrient molecules in specific cellular models, and through population genetics and statistics, spanning to the fields of toxicology, toxicogenetics and exposomics. The effects of microbiomes in the metabolism and uptake of nutrients is also analyzed. A specific focus is taken also to the development of novel nutraceutical products and dietary solutions, as a way to non-invasively tackle specific diseases, such as those linked to mitochondrial, energetic and metabolic deficits.
