Lab Molecular Biology and Biochemistry - Ex Bodoniana Building
Via San Donato 19/2, Bologna
The Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Lab (Lab 1) consists of 74 workstations and it mainly hosts the courses of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies, Genomics, Molecular and Industrial Biotechnology, Health Biology, Molecular and Cell Biology.
The laboratory is dedicated to teaching the main experimental techniques in the field of molecular biology, biochemistry and microbiology.
The main activities concern the preparation of solid and liquid culture media for the growth and isolation of microorganisms, their identification, extraction of DNA and proteins from biological samples, electrophoretic techniques, biochemical and kinetic analysis of enzymatic activities.
Refrigerated and non-refrigerated benchtop centrifuges, scales, thermoblocks, thermostated bath, an incubator for the growth of microorganisms, equipment for nucleic acid and protein electrophoresis, UV-Vis spectrophotometers, an apparatus for the acquisition of images of electrophoretic gels, thermocyclers, microscopes and stereoscopes for viewing live preparations or fixed on a slide, 2 class A fume hoods, a laminar flow hood for cell cultures, autoclave for the preparation of sterile material are available.
