On June 11, during the Gala Dinner of the 65th AFI Symposium – Associazione Farmaceutici Industria, held at the Grand Hotel in Rimini, Dr. Elisabetta Donati received the Recipharm Italia Award 2026 for the best experimental thesis on the topic of “Pediatric Formulations.”

Her thesis entitled “Innovative Strategies for Oral Omeprazole Administration in Pediatric Patients,” focused on the development of orodispersible wafers incorporating gastro-resistant lipid microparticles loaded with omeprazole, designed to facilitate drug administration in young children. The developed formulation aims to improve both the stability of the active pharmaceutical ingredient and dosing accuracy compared with conventional compounded liquid preparations, thereby contributing to safer and more effective pediatric therapies.

Dr. Donati graduated with honors in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (CTF) from the University of Bologna in October 2025. The research was carried out under the supervision of Prof. Beatrice Albertini and Dr. Eleonora De Renzis of FaBiT, within the activities of the PharmTechLab research group, coordinated by Prof. Nadia Passerini.

This award recognizes the high quality of the research conducted and highlights PharmTechLab’s commitment to the development of innovative pharmaceutical formulations aimed at addressing the therapeutic needs of vulnerable patient populations, with particular attention to pediatric care.
