Program

Part A: Short introduction to nanomedicine (history, definitions, applications, categories of nanomaterials etc.), focusing on diagnosis, prevention and treatment.

Part B: Anticancer effect of photocatalytic Ag/TiO2 nanoparticles. Ag/TiO2 nanoparticles have shown anticancer potential upon irradiation with UV or visible light. Synthesis, characterization, treatment, application of biological methods in order to investigate the induced apoptotic effect.

Speakers

  • Dr. Nefeli Lagopati

Dr. Nefeli Lagopati is an Assistant Professor in Biology-Nanomedicine at the Laboratory of Biology, at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She performed her PhD at the Faculty of Biology, NKUA, in cooperation with the National Centre for Scientific Research "Demokritos". She graduated from the Faculty of Physics, of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and received MSc in Radiation Physics, MSc in Advanced Materials and MSc in Technoeconomic Systems. Her main research activities focus on the investigation of the anticancer effect of various nanomaterials. She served as a Substitute board member of the Hellenic Public Health Organization and as a consultant of the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation. Her work is reflected in a significant number of scientific publications and presentations at Congresses/Conferences (Google Scholar, h-index 32).
